Hello, I’m wondering which configuration you’re using in the “Properties” of your entry under the “Display” section, could you perhaps provide me a screenshot or let me know? Also, is your remote host using a 4K monitor? Perhaps using the following configuration could resolve your issue, change the “Screen sizing mode” to “Smart reconnect” and the “Remote desktop size” to “Default” both options under the “Display” tab of your entry properties.

Let me know if this helps, For your question about having the session be in a window or fullscreen, I assume your entry is set in “embedded” mode correct? To have the session be in full screen you would need to use “External” mode. With the display mode set to “External”, you can change the “Remote desktop size” to “Fullscreen”. Best regards,. This is at least a workaround. Add the following line to the RDP file open with notepad : smart sizing:i Dylan Dylan 1 1 silver badge 4 4 bronze badges. This works but it does cause the view to scale. This does not change the remote desktop resolution, it just scales the remote desktop window to remove scroll bars. I don’t care if it looks good, I just want to be able to see everything. Improve this question. Christopher Walters. Windows 10 – Remote Desktop Connection Hi Lorraine, I will certainly help you with the issue you are experiencing in adjusting the resolution on the remote desktop. This issue might occur due to, when you first connect, Remote Desktop attempts to size the screen according to its default setting. You can adjust this setting within the Remote Desktop client. Adjusting the screen size allows you to sculpt the desktop display size to better fit your computer’s viewing area.

Click on the Options button located in the lower left-hand corner of the RDC window.

resolution of remote screen not right – Question Info

Both of my systems are configured as x As to your question – the issue does NOT persist if using smaller resolutions. But I disagree this should be by-design. I think what you meant is it’s a bug, but behaves as coded these are not the same. I would like it to get fixed if possible – it’s really annoying to have to continually resize the windows when I log in.

JD , your issue is not the same. As MichaelSandells writes, the local AND remote machine are both configured at the same resolution. Your issue is expected behavior the windows have to go somewhere when the resolution is changed. A little more information – it looks like it may be a side-affect of the RDP historical design. RDP was implemented prior to the 4K monitor resolution. Based on what can be seen when RDP first connects, it looks like they implemented RDP such that it initially gets a resolution as large as was possible prior to 4K resolution and THEN resizes the window to the desired resolution.

Since the max resolution prior to 4K was less than 4K, the windows get resized such that when the 4K resolution is available, they no longer fill the entire window. This is, of course, just a guess based on observed RDP behavior, but I do hope MS looks into this and adjusts the current behavior. I sure hope this is not a by-design change of behavior.

Hey JD. Great information. Your previous post described the behavior with Win 10 – if you have time, please post your experiments based on the Win7 VM including both client and native host resolutions.

I don’t understand how such an obvious bug is still being asked for so many details. I can reproduce this on all my real PCs and VMs. If you’re a developer and work through RDP you’ll notice this each time all the dev tools keep resizing and all the little tool windows get pushed around the screen. Is nobody using windows 10 at Microsoft as a development environment?

If so, I would have been so annoyed by this and did something about it! I can go full screen and use Super Pan, but that still requires me to scroll around. I don’t care if it looks good, I just want to be able to see everything. Improve this question. It’s not actually connected to any monitor and in any case, nothing is 4K. I didn’t actually have a question about how to be in full screen. I was saying that whether in full screen or windowed mode, the resolution would not match the monitor.

So, I’ve looked at it again and it seems that the resolution is matching monitor 1, but can’t be made to match monitor 2 even though obviously it is displaying on monitor 2. I just tried it again with “external” and dragged it over to monitor it always comes up on monitor 1 first–and the resolution looks right, though the dimensions are still set to that of monitor 1.

Now, I just have scroll bars because of course it doesn’t fit. Selecting smart sizing at that point just squishes everything rather than change the resolution. I think I see the problem. The issue is that the monitors have different resolutions.

And, a window can not be opened on monitor 2; so, it always opens on monitor 1 and that sets the resolution which can not be changed. I tried the option “open in pane” and that asked me which pane I wanted to open it in.
